depends on the side of the family, probably..that and ethnocultural “pride” is cyclical..some generations just wanted to fit into the world around them
I dunno, mother, seems to me those two things often end up being one and the same anyway, given all the fussing over setting it up, at least from the kid point of view (and sometimes the point of view of the other adults observing or in some way involved).
Mom once got me all fixed up the day of school pictures. She brushed my hair, put a crisp white shirt on me, added a necktie, then said, “Now go get your pants on.”
When the photos came back and I had overalls with my crisp white shirt and tie, she said, “That’s my boy!”
I don’t know what she expected. I ALWAYS wore overalls.

Movie: Wall Street, 1987.
For six months, my husband and all of his friends slicked their hair back and wore suspenders.
Glad that fad is over! Lol!

Watch out for the jacks, everyone. Stepping on Legos is nothing compared to stepping on jacks.

Parents always disguise their kids for family photos. I have often wondered why.
