I wonder if that’s what my nieta is typing? She’s appropriated my old portable Olivetti 32 about a year ago. She loves using it for school papers and whatever else “almost-thirteen-years-old” (“Next week, Abuelo!”) girls like to write. Who knew retro would be so cool?

Do they still sell typewriter ribbons? They can’t last forever in storage.

For those who have never seen it, the Complete quote is:

“It was a dark and stormy night; the rain fell in torrents, except at occasional intervals, when it was checked by a violent gust of wind which swept up the streets (for it is in London that our scene lies), rattling along the housetops, and fiercely agitating the scanty flame of the lamps that struggled against the darkness.” ― Edward Bulwer Lytton

Seeing the entire sentence helps a lot when trying to understand Why it is so often lampooned as the Worst opening sentence ever written.
