We spent one Christmas visiting Hubby’s family, and it was unseasonably warm. The Squire’s folks had a space heater in the living room, and we were all roasting. Hubbytook off his jacket and I removed my blazer. His father called out, “Vera! Come turn up the heat. These young’uns aren’t wearing coats!”
Said and done.
Hubby removed his fisherman’s sweater and sat down in his T-shirt. I had on a blouse and a vest, so removing the vest was the best I could do. “Vera! Come turn up the heat. These young’uns are sitting around in their underwear!”
Said and done.
With nothing else to safely remove, I decamped to the back porch with Hubby’s youngest sister, and we did counted cross-stitch.
For my entire life until I was about 55 I was hot all the time. Husband was always cold to about the same point. Everything in the house is setup based on this – the air conditioner was put in on my side of the bedroom, my chair in the kitchen is in the path of the a/c from our studio behind me. He is always closer to the heat. I would not wear a sweatshirt until it was in the high 50s – too hot too do so. Winter jacket not put on until the temperature was in the 40 and somewhere in the 30s or below I would actually zip the jacket closed.
Now we have reversed and I walk around with a sweatshirt on even when it is 60s or maybe 70s outside. One time it was in the 80s and I got sick from wearing a sweatshirt as I may feel cold, but my body still overheated because I did so. It is to make up for all the times I said I would never be the old lady with the sweater in the movies and stores in the summer.

In our house it’s the opposite because I am still not finished with the hot flashes.

If it is under 75, it’s too cold.

When mom lived with us, she was cold and my hubby was sweating. I told them that both of their thermostats were messed up.

She could have put on a top coat and said “COLD”. He has no more clothes to take off.
