They do — and mattresses too. We used to visit my Dad’s parents often. And I’d get to sleep in his childhood bed. As he said, “That bed was old when I used it.”
Been there; done that. My parents grew up during the Depression and threaded the shortages of WWII. Mum could make a dime go where other people needed a dollar. (Her habit of packing my school lunches in cereal bags was embarrassing, though.)
When I was a kid (in the 50’s) in the winter my sister and I would have old coats thrown on our bed for extra warmth. We slept in an attic that wasn’t well heated by the coal furnace way down in the cellar. Ah good times!
My family was very large and very poor when I was growing up. We were the ones that received Thanksgiving Baskets that irked my Dad as he was a proud man and most of those baskets he refused. We all grew up and became successful and productive members of society in our own ways. We appreciate the things that God gave us and are not wasteful. It was a good learning tool and experience…….
