Back in the ‘80s when we brought my husband’s tomcat home to meet my rescued shepherd mix, the cat hissed, spat and hid while the dog cowered in fear. We kept them in the house together for a week and by the end of that time, the cat owned that dog. Every time the cat came in, he went straight to HIS dog for attention and grooming and they were best of buddies.
In a household setting with alpha humans, dogs and cats live together in harmony and become great friends in most cases. Dogs vs cats is a harmful stereotype.
Our husky when I was in high school (ancient days in rural hell) was a babysitter for a stray cat’s kittens — he had a really nice, warm doghouse in the lower level of the garage building and the mother cat realized quickly that he was a total softy, had her kittens in his doghouse, and relied on him to keep an eye on them when she wanted to wander off and do cat stuff.

Cat in a dog kennel. This can’t last a day. Enjoy while you can Kenny. Not easy to find a stray cat that purrs when it sees a strange dog ;-)
