At the time this strip was published, the Postmaster General was John A. Gronouski (Sept. 30, 1963-Nov. 2, 1965). It was he who promoted the five-numbered zip code system. Almost three weeks after Gronouski took the job, Peanuts introduced a new character, 5, into the strip. 5’s last name is five numbers (95472).
