I’m surprised that didn’t happen more often in fictional works. How would the forces know someone isn’t stealing a vehicle?

I really like the reference. In a previous strip he gave his regards to Broadway, now Unter den Linden, a famous road in Berlin, it ends on the Paris Plaza, where the Brandenburg Gate is located. Back when the strip was originally published it was in East Berlin, the Berlin Gate was next to the Berlin Wall (since 1961) and the only people able to go there were military personell (wall guards). Around 1916 (when the allied entered WW1) it was probably the most prestigeous street in Berlin, or maybe even in Germany.
