I remember having summer reading lists in school. The teacher from the next grade would come to our room and hand out a mimeographed sheet to us all with 3 or 4 books to read over the summer. We had to write a paragraph on the book on the provided mimeograph paper and turn it in to the school when we got the assignment completed.
I read a lot but went to a Catholic school. My reading was mostly mythologies and SF so could not do a book report on the Devil’s Literature or the Pope would blow a blood vessel. Thank goodness for Classics Illustrated!!

As kids, we all thought, “When I grow up, I’m going to do whatever I want!” Still waiting, eh?
