It’s not so strange. Think about it or try it for yourself. While most people may not quite enjoy the wind from a moving car in their face, most would definitely not like at all having someone blow in their face.
I think the reason they like car rides is the way the scenery moves. Dogs like to chase moving things (squirrels, for example) and mine love to look out the car window even when it’s rolled up.
