Been there. Done that. I believe the wife gets more out of planning a trip than going on the trip. Case in point is spending Turkey Day with a daughter two states away.

Packing gets easier and more streamlined the more you travel. We usually do laundry while away so we’re unpacking clean clothes when we return. Definitely good to have a balance of vacation and extended family visits. Glad to have visited family twice in 2019, with a personal trip in between, since it turned out it’d be at least three years before we’d be able to return.

The older I get the less I feel like traveling. Since neither my wife nor I have in-laws anymore the holidays aren’t travel times for us.

A vacation with Excitement is getting away and telling no one where you are going.

Most thanksgivings were tolerable, because I had my Mum and Dad and my 2 brothers, to buffer the egregious right wing uncle, who would always get red faced and demand the we listen to Rush Limbaugh!

Those days are gone and even though my Mum and Dad and my 2 brothers are gone, I can enjoy a thanksgiving with my wife and daughter and son in law!

    It feels good!

Spud over at Wallace seems to have it worse. His most interesting thing is his rash.

Only child, so it was my Mother and I celebrating Thanksgiving ( parents divorced ). Now its the hubby and I going to a restaurant. I love it but always wondered what these big family celebrations are like. Thank you all for giving me a peek into your lives !

Family get togethers, I love love love it when everyone came over and it got noisy and messy and complicated. And I loved it again when everyone left and hubby and I and the dogs had peace again. It was a good season of life. Cherish the good ones because eventually it all changes.

I used to have a sign in my guest room that said "Guests are like fish – they stink after 3 days’.

It helps if you like your inlaws. My wife’s family is big bunch of very cool Norwegians. We/they have standing reservations that fills almost a wing of a Holiday Inn.

Yeah, packing is tough. REALLY tough for them. They’ve been packing for weeks now.

Where did Gene get the idea she wanted to change plans? She never said anything like that.

When I was growing up, we rarely had family gatherings on Thanksgiving. Mom and my brother preferred to go hunting. (Similarly, Easter was a trout fishing holiday.) But Christmas… that was a family event of a different proportion.
