Had a favorite sweater that my mom washed and it shrunk. I mean it really shrunk. I had a miff about it but since my favorite sweater was now the size of my little sister my mom cheerfully announced it as a hand-me-down. I didn’t think it would go so well because the shrunken fabric was very tight and stiff. Mom was able to get one sleeve on little sister’s arm, little sister felt how tight and restricted the sweater was and…it was a nope from little sister. True story!
Then, when they’re the right size, you sew the Enterprise insignia to the front, a little gold braid on the sleeves, and you have the uniform from the pilot film and episode!
My mother spent months knitting a wool sweater for me and gave it as a Xmas gift. I wore it frequently, but it got smelly, so I put it in the hamper for her to wash. I dunno what happened to her thought process, but she just ran it through the wash and dryer cycles with the rest of the clothes. Of course, it shrunk too small to wear. I gave it to my 4 yrs younger sister, but she didn’t like it. It disappeared a few weeks later.
Back when doubleknit was new, mom washed my favorite dress. It became small enough for my dressy doll. I was sad, but mom took me shopping and actually asked my opinion for a replacement.

Given the supply chain problems, that’s all Rose could find.

Why not wash them in hot water to make sure they shrink?

Even better, run those sweaters through a hot dryer a couple of times.

Anyone read Heloise—— in today’s column she explains how to possibly un-shrink a sweater.
