Did the milking during the summer when I was kid. When I saw the milking stool I was really upset. "How am I supposed to sit on that? It only has one leg! My Dad told me I was silly, it had three legs. “It has one, you have two..do the math!”

I’m afraid that “modern idea” died sometime in the 60s. Unless you intend to farm mainly to feed yourself, you cannot compete with the megagriculture unless you can find a very special niche. Hand-cranked milk would not be a suitable niche. :)
