My parents were very frugal. One Christmas, they were traveling, my older sister cared for me and she spent a small fortune on me. I still remember my seventh Christmas and her gifts; a chemistry set, a microscope, an erector set and a baseball glove.
Maybe get a non-battery powered truck and get one that requires his son to use some imagination. Outside. Kids these days just turn on their toys and watch them do everything. They aren’t really interacting with them.
I bought my first car in 1960 for 50 dollars. A flathead 1950 Ford convertible. Pretty as could be and sold it for $150 year later to buy a 1955 Chevy. Got my drivers license in 1962. Only had about 62 people around my neighborhood. Lonesome valley folks. Wish I had both those cars today. Those two and a 1959 Super 88 Olds are my lifetime favs and I have owned over 45 cars and trucks in my tiny life. And a few Motorcycles to boot.
Sorry about the price. I hope he gets your money’s worth of enjoyment and not just a few minutes of pleasure. It’s only once a year though. Merry Christmas. Now let’s go get those new Diamond earrings for the wife that she wants…….
With the waning of your boy’s attention span, leasing might just be the best way give him that big gift. I’ve seen so many little electric cars that are now sitting out in the yard, or have been put out on the curb for trash pickup. What a waste of good money. Now, if those parents would put away that cash in a savings account for the kids first EV when they’re old enough to drive, that’s another thing.
The Sansoms are revealing their age with this one. For those too young to be familiar with The Big Bopper, his real name was J.P. Richardson. He became world famous with his hit ‘Chantilly Lace’ that reached #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1958. But he will likely be most remembered for dying in the same plane crash that killed Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens on February 2, 1959 which was immortalized as “the day the music died” in Don McLean’s hit song ‘American Pie’.
It’s a good investment Brutus, Wilberforce could learn to drive a truck and drivers are in big demand. Also, it will be lot cheaper than sending him to college which in his case would be a total waste of money.

Here’s a suggestion Brutus, buy a set of batteries, a nice card and write in it – “Toy not included.”
