once again, it’s great to live in a country (japan) where tipping is not a thing. some idiots are apparently trying to get restaurants to adopt the custom (lord knows why), but they’ve been met with pretty much universal disdain…
One of the local restaurant owners wanted the State to declare wait staff as independent contractors so that the owners wouldn’t have to pay them. The staff would be working for the person who received the food and that person would pay the waitperson.
waitstaff GET wages and TIPS they don’t ALWAYS report… tips WERE a reward for excellent service, but seem expected now, and BIG ones too; seems less than 20% is met with disgust…
Cruz doesn’t probably “owe” a thing. Especially on fast food, which is what they’re eating. I’m doubting he did much serving. They could have avoided this with a tip jar.
I try to follow what I had oringally learned from Miss Manners. 5% for take out, 10%-15% for delivery pending on level of service, 15% and up for table service pending on the leve of service.

I don’t believe it said anywhere that a tip is required. In case you forget, your customers might be hard-pressed to pay for what they got.
