Oh how true! We keep saying it’s time to stop getting stuff and start getting rid of stuff.

Exactly! I told my daughter that if she has to get me a gift, get me something that she wants ~ it will be hers one day. I also told her a good gift would be to come take a truck load of stuff out of my house. It’s amazing all the stuff you collect.

Arolarson and Perkycat are both right. Sad thing is so many of this generation don’t like what we have, nor the space for it. True story. What does one do with great grandmother’s china(really nice pattern) when a family member’s family eats only off of paper plates and fast food or frozen dinners only.I have started putting notes with things that list value(googled) and family history where appropriate. The alterative is to will all of the things to specific people and they can keep or sell and use the money as they like. And, you don’t have the work of disposing of the things.

Although gift cards are thought to be impersonal, they are something that are can be useful and appreciated. Gas, food, and other essentials are not going to be wasted. Sometimes the easy way works. If given with ❤ it works.

A large cheese and cracker basket would might be just the thing. A sampling of wines might be an extension and the family could participate.

This year, instead of stuff, I gave a sizable donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, in honor of my husband, in the names of all the family members. I did the same last year, and they greatly appreciated it.

My mom has been saying this for years, so she has started giving stuff away. Still, it will be more like three months!

Six weeks. It took six weeks to go through my MIL’s stuff when she passed away over the summer. Never knew a two bedroom apartment could hold so much.

Funny/not funny story….when cleaning out Grandmother’s apartment we were moving briskly along as time was short when we started finding stashed cash. As a survivor of the depression era, she liked to have cash on hand. Well that slowed us down. We had to leaf thru all books, check the backs of all framed pictures, look under all shelf and drawer liners, etc. under up with a respectable amount.
