Ahhhh. Enchiladas Wednesday an d Fish Sticks Friday. Those were my favorite school lunches because I actually knew what they were slopping on my plate.
I remember liking the taste of school spaghetti, but for some reason they always served it molten lava hot. At least it never looked like pudding, though.
I’ve been out of high school MANY years, and I still remember our lunches prepared and served in the cafeteria. They were delicious. My regret is that I never spoke up and told the cooks that. They had fun making knock off McDonald’s sandwiches: Big Macs, Filet O Fish, etc..
When it came to lunch, mostly I brown-bagged it. But in junior high, the best lunch they served was sausage pizza. Kids went up for seconds on that.
As for Paige, her imagination appears to be in good form, or she just came from a meeting of the Drama Club, or she’s truly delusional. But she put me in mind of an episode of The Honeymooners, where Ralph refuses to pay a rent increase. He and Norton end up barricaded in the apartment with nothing to eat but celery. To quell Norton’s complaining, Ralph tells him to pretend the celery is something else. Norton launches into a wonderful routine of pretending he’s eating steak dinner, with gravy, baked potato and salad. Predictably, he drives Ralph up the wall.

Once at the cafeteria I got a big piece of chicken in my soup. I remarked to the server, “the string must have broke.”

I used to like “noodles with ketchup” they served in the lunchroom.

In a school in NY, it’s vegetarian dishes on Fridays. Yum.

Not a good thing. Maybe Paige should have taken her chances with lunch packed by Mom.
