I use the eat one noodle technique.

Add sauce and let gravity do it’s thing

I just do what it says on the box – boil for eight minutes.

I learned that technique from the Three Stooges many years ago.

My criterion is quite simple: for dried pasta, cook until a piece just loses its crunch.

The most memorable movie scene ever to involve pasta on a wall was in The Odd Couple (1968). During a fight, Oscar (Walter Matthau) makes a derisive comment about the spaghetti Felix (Jack Lemmon) has prepared. Felix explains, in a superior tone, that it isn’t spaghetti, it’s linguini. Oscar grabs the plate, hurls it against the kitchen wall, and delivers this classic line: “Now it’s garbage.”

In college we tested the jello cubes by throwing one at the wall. If it bounced off, the jello was way too old to eat.

That is really not a great way to test pasta when you cook.

I can never recall using this technique. When I prepare spaghetti, I use the taste test method.
