I have a friend who started a running group & asked me to join. I loved running with him so I did & even sat on the “board” in some long since forgotten capacity. I should mention now that it was a “gay” running group… well, an inclusive gay running group as my hetero self was a founding member. I loved, loved, LOVED it when I would drop my membership into casual conversations with people then mention my boyfriend in the next breath. People would stutter their replies after that. Not once did anybody ever ask me to explain (politely or rudely) why I, a female with a bf, was in a gay running group. In fact to this day I’m almost positive my own sister is unsure of my sexual orientation. Point of all this is, ya just never know to look at somebody, and if Lennie had him in the comic in a stereotypical role, well that would be a whole other can of worms!

I love this, and it’s true today as it was 22 years ago. Why is someone’s “orientation” anybody’s business… (including Lennie’s publisher!)
