I’m in worse health than I’ve ever been (the pain is stable for now), yet I’ve never been happier. Our 20th anniversary is on the 23rd. We have a house we love. Dad helps around the house. We’ll go back to the shelter in a couple of weeks when they should have more kittens. Our current two cats love the new throw rug. https://freyjaw.dreamwidth.org/130509.html
This reminds me of the AT&T commercial where the woman gives the girl a lollipop and then gives her brother an even bigger lollipop. Instead of being happy about getting a lollipop that she apparently did nothing to earn, the girl complains, “That’s not fair.”
Why is it unfair? It’s unfair because even though I have enough, somebody else has better?
Even the Bible brings this point to light. Jesus relates a parable about a man who hires people to harvest his field at dawn, and then hires more at midday and then hires more at the 11th hour and pays all equally. Those who were hired early complained even though they got a fair day’s wage.
Some people are never satisfied and believe they deserve more especially when people tell them that other people, less deserving people, have more.

Some of the happiest people I have known were blissfully unaware they had nothing.

I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it left.

One of my dad’s fav expressions (God rest his soul) was, “keep smilin’”.

I was told “smile, things could be worse.” So I smiled. Sure enough, things got worse.
