This put me in mind of one of my favorite vintage Marmaduke cartoons. Marmaduke and his mistress are in the car (she’s driving, he’s in the passenger seat), and we see them from the perspective of the couple in the car behind them. Mistress has her hand out, signaling for a left turn, but Marmaduke’s paw is sticking out to the right. The wife in the car behind them tells her husband, “Careful! I think that car ahead is going to do something!”
I have this one in a paperback, Marmaduke, published by Scholastic Books Services, printed in 1969 and containing cartoons from 1963 – 1965. (Anybody remember the four page catalogs from Scholastic Books or the Arrow Book Club, given out monthly in school? I was buying cartoon books even then.)
Not surprisingly, we see here that Marmaduke is as bossy today as he was 60 years ago.
