And the sad and aggravating thing for those of us in that category is that when we escape to the comic pages to get away from it, we find THIS.

People nowadays are like ostriches: they bury their heads in the ground at any kind of bad news.

The numbers are out there, and have been proven to be exaggerated…for instance, my DH’s 50 year old nephew died, and is counted as a COVID death. He did not have COVID, nor was his condition anything like COVID. We sheep are keep in fear so we will obey the shepherd.

NPR, BBC, CBC, NHK are pretty good with their not reporting very little thing about it all the time. But lately I find myself listening to more music instead of listening to the news.

Here in the Northeast, cases have been falling steadily for a few weeks now (although our Mayor, Muriel Bowser, has extended the mandating of face masks in indoor public places like gyms, banks, stores, etc. until 02/28). And they are starting to fall more or less steadily in the Midwest as well. And they’re (hopefully) peaking in the Western US or will soon. In the meantime, we need to keep in mind that the media love to hype up bad news because that attracts eyeballs. A headline reading “Covid cases hit record high!” is guaranteed to generate far more clicks than one reading, “Covid cases falling steadily as people take steps to protect themselves.” My hope is strong that by the we move through February and winter gives way to spring, we’ll be OK.
