My password checker asked for at least one upper class character, one lower class character, a number and a special character. But “King Edward Fagin doobie Greta Thumberg” was too long.
A good password has three characteristics: it should be long, difficult to guess and easy to remember … PERIOD
Adding so many uppercase, lowercase, numbers and some special characters but not others add NOTHING to the security of the password. If we know that “3” means “E” and zero means “O” then why do we think hackers don’t know these things too.
The only thing these $illy @$$ rules do is force you to design a password that is difficult to remember.
One way I get around this (and this is NOT a real password I have used or will ever use) is a combination of dates and initials. For example, 5/15/1950_PattyGB is my cousin’s birthday and her initials. It also satisfies most rules except that I wish it were a little bit longer.
There are tools online you can use to check how long it should take to hack passwords. Patty’s Password should take 3 quadrillion years.
Unless your name is CIA, Bank of America, IRS or something like that, you don’t need to be that good. You just need to be better than most other people. Hackers are not likely to be willing to spend more than a couple of minutes to hack a password before moving onto the next potential victim.
This is called “security through obscurity” – the smaller your internet footprint, the less likely someone will step on your toes.

Uh, passwords don’t ask for anything – they’re just passwords.
