Some trivia: The first recorded association of Valentine’s Day with romantic love is in “The Parliament of Fowls” (1382) by Geoffrey Chaucer, a dream vision portraying a parliament for birds to choose their mates, which he wrote honoring the first anniversary of the engagement of fifteen-year-old King Richard II of England to fifteen-year-old Anne of Bohemia: [in modern English]“For this was on Saint Valentine’s DayWhen every bird comes there to choose his matchOf every kind that men may think ofAnd that so huge a noise they began to makeThat earth and air and tree and every lakeWas so full, that not easily was there spaceFor me to stand—so full was all the place.”However, he may have been referring to a different Saint Valentine’s Day — the feast day of St. Valentine of Genoa, which was probably celebrated on 3 May. The treaty providing for Richard II and Anne’s marriage, the subject of the poem, was signed on May 2, 1381. Or, it could have been 14 February, because due to the progression of the equinoxes and the introduction of the Gregorian calendar in 1582, Chaucer’s 14 February would have actually be 23 February (Julian calendar), a time when birds started mating and nesting in England. Considering Chaucer’s somewhat impish character, he may enjoyed employed the double entendre .

The way the rock is balanced and the placement of the rope could mean that boulder will fall to the right and roll toward the guy who laid the trap.
