Regrettably, I doubt if resting up helps any squirrel that’s been hit by a car, even if it’s the most glancing blow.

I’ve wondered if natural selection will ever produce squirrels that know how to cross roads safely.

So, he’s a wannabe Santa’s reindeer, but not very handsome? (The best I can do this early in the morning)

The squirrels I’ve almost got only go part way, pause & turn back. I’ve often wondered if it is due to the vibration sensation of a vehicle. Or . . . maybe they like playing dodge ball with wheels!

Squirrels often get hit by cars because they are road-dents.

The telephone wires and electric wires were the squirrel freeway for decades. They could move from neighborhood to neighborhood safely, but not much of that infrastructure remains. I know of nobody who still has a land line and the power lines have almost all moved underground. I feed walnuts to a couple of squirrel families, but it always concerns me when they see me pull into the driveway and they dart over to greet me.

Some squirrels are hardwired to do the back and forth dance in the road.

From my experience, either squirrels like playing chicken with cars, or they’re indecisive in panic situations.
