I need it cool to sleep. The heat pump can manage, but it’s expensive to run that much. My wife had a brilliant idea: a window A/C in the bedroom. I turn it on when I’m getting ready for bed and off when I get up. The rest of the house stays at the highest temperature I can stand while I’m awake.
They weren’t raised in Florida, as I was. Our move to central cooling was when we installed an attic fan that made the bedroom curtains stand out horizontally.

If they live in California they will be told not to run their air conditioner during the hottest part of the day.
