This subject ran through a thread of comments on another strips several weeks ago. The word “darn” which appears in the comic get bleeped in the comments. What good is a euphemism if it gets bleeped anyway?
I get the feeling the nannybots are set to different tolerances for different comics. Very low for “kiddie” strips, more permissive for the more adult themes.
Some people seem to get bleeped less than others too – The Old Hipster in particular has slipped some comments through that I was surprised made it intact!
I didn’t know you could bleeep a modern, machine-made sock; I thought that was for hand-knitted ones, though I guess those are in fashion, too. Okay, Opal – first you have to make his socks, and then you must bleeep them. Oh, to heck with it. Chinese tube socks from Walmart it is!
Oh for goodness sakes. I said d-a-r-n as in to mend socks! It’s not the same as sewing them, because you run the needle underneath each time. But I did not cuss. Honest to pete why do they bleeeeeep out d-a-r-n?

Earl, the only thing good about the ‘old days’ was that you were a younger curmudgeon.

Earl will probably sleep on the couch tonight.

He probably won’t mind!

They’ll both sleep better.

You deserved that Earl. It doesn’t make much sense to bleeep socks these days when they’re not that expensive to buy new ones.

Quotations marks helped.

gocomics seemed to bleep every use of bleeep until recently. Now I have seen it used on occasion without being bleeped.
cleokaya about 15 years ago
Well ha ha, gocomics just proved me wrong. bleeep it.

I agree with Macushlalondra - Socks aren’t that expensive, so it is better to throw them away, rather than darn them.
