I think the line got disconnected in the final panel. (Elly may not know where Lawrence is, but Michael — the kid’s best friend — may know.)

Considering how Connie always dumped Lawrence on the Pattersons whenever she went man-hunting, it’s probable she’s assume he’s there now.

BTW, if anyone should have been thrown out, it’s Greg!!

Elly has to go check and see if Lawrence is there. This is not the first time a kid has gone to the Patterson house to escape the wrath of an angry parent (remember the Gordon story). She’ll need to check and see if Lawrence is sleeping in one of their cars.

This happened to a high school friend of mine. That was over 50 years ago and I believe both parents have died. Don’t know that parents and son ever reconciled. Such a tragedy.

Oh, don’t give us this “Greg made Lawrence leave the house” B.S.! You did nothing to stop him, apparently. Your own ignorance and homophobia was on full display, Connie.

Remember in the olden days when we had cords attached to our phones. Wow, how did we live that way? (eye roll)

Had a neighbor’s son show up at our door years ago saying his parents threw him out. Put him up for the night on our couch. Next day went over to parents house with him and they explained that he wasn’t thrown out…he left. He had a very bad mental imbalance, but i will say that his story was convincing at the time. Here we are 30 yrs later and he still has problems coping. Sad.

If the phone rings in the middle of the night, I am instantly awake! It usually means bad news and I must be prepared to face it.

Normally the punchline would be her disconnecting the line and saying to herself “Duh, Elly!” Not in this case, as Connie called out of the blue when Elly was sound asleep.

Well yes. It sure seems to me that as written, this whole thing is on Connie for her over the top, out of control, totally unchecked reaction to her son confiding his feelings to the one person who should have showed love and compassion towards him in a obviously difficult moment. And further, that Greg! Well, Connie should have known that by calling Greg into this would be like trying to put out the fire with gasoline.None of this is far fetched. As we see in the comments many have had or have seen this behavior before when confronted with a homosexual teenager trying to find their way in life. Again! Good job Lynn for bringing this story to light. A story worth telling.Still as relevant today as it was back then when it was 1st written.

Imagine if Connie married another man:

Connie: “Lawrence, what are you doing here? Your father is coming.”

    Loud voice: CONNIE!

    Biff enters room

Biff: “You were supposed to be in Switzerland! What happened, did you get kicked out of another boarding school? Looks like Larry the Fairy is trying to do something with his life; take on the Kennedys in breaking the record for how many schools they can get expelled from! Do you know how much perfectly good dough I have wasted on these go-nowhere kids of yours?”

Connie: “We can afford it. The least we can do is give our children a good life.”

    Biff decks Lawrence

Biff: “Get straight or get out of here!”

Connie: “That does it Biff, I am leaving you!”

Biff: “So tell me Connie, who’s going to pay, for your clothes, for your liquor, for your jewelry, who is going to pay? For your surgery?”

Connie looks at her big boobies

Connie: “It was your idea for me to get, these, these, things. You want them back, cut me open and repossess them!”

Biff{momentarily stunned, but then recovers}: “Uh, well, I will not only cut you off, I will do it to the kids as well.”

    Connie: “Oh no, you wouldn’t.”

Biff: “Oh yes I would. Molly; I will get her probation revoked. See if this Dick Wiggler, Dirk Diggler, whomever wants to keep dating a convict. Gayle; I will have her credit cards repossessed, she can settle her debts with her creditors all by herself. As for Lawrence, I am not sure about having all three of your kids being there with your brother Joey; one big happy jailbird family! On second thought, no, Lawrence would want to drop the soap in the showers! Well, I will think of something. As you for you, Queerance, I am going to be back in an hour, so you better not be!”

Biff leaves room. Connie sits down defeated.

Connie: “He is your father Lawrence, and he takes care of all of us.”

he is probably wandering around totally confused, disoriented. May have curled up in the garage. I understand the initial reactions but the kid is still technically their responsibility.

I’m leaving this comment on every comic site I visit today, so sorry for the repetiation for those who see if multiple times. I’m so disgusted with GoComics (and I told them so in my latest emai!)

GOCOMICS IS STILL NOT WORKING! Doesn’t go down to the “like” or reply. I followed the instructions they gave me in their email, with the resultant annoyance of having to put in passwords on everything now. If this doesn’t clear up, I will stop coming here. The comments and replies are the reason I come here. And I won’t be back to pay my premium membership in the future, either! Boo, hiss! Five days is way too long not to get something fixed.
