    I remember hearing that but I can’t think of a single instance where “w” is a vowel. Except in Welch.

    When I was in grad school, the “shorthand” system I used for taking notes involved eliminating most vowels, some consonants, and some syllables. For example, transcription was tcn, biochemical was bchl, replication was rpln, etc. – all were context-dependent. My classmates were a little perplexed when they borrowed my notes!
