You need to take a page from my Conan’s book – bring them your bowl, then drop it on the hard floor. It helps if the bowl is stainless steel – that way the noise is much more impressive!
There was no confusion in our household. I was the only dog-feeder. That was after the vet found out that hubby was feeding our dachshunds “people” food, including Haagen-Dazs ice cream! :-D

I feed the dogs before my wife wakes up in the morning and before she gets done with work in the evening. There’s no possible confusion.
