humor is funny if you can relate. If we can’t put ourselves into the shoes of the one making the joke it won’t be funny. If it punches a sore spot, it isn’t funny. It can be a fine line
Try watching Harold Lloyd… a little more sophisticated and a lot funnier. I suggest, The Sin of Harold Diddlebock.
