Ah, the subtle art of political cartooning.

You, see, Obama is in a large pit. Now, that image might confuse some people. They might actually think that Obama actually is trapped in a literal pit somewhere, exchanging inanities with his secret service agents like something out of an absurdirst play.

So it’s good that Lisa labeled the pit as “deficit.” I mean, how could we possibly know what this meant if she hadn’t?

Let’s not forget who turned Clinton’s mountain into that hole. W and crew had 8 years to dig it. Barrack Obama has only a few months now to work on it.

Churchill, you have an unusual definition of ‘healthy’. Bush’s ‘economy’ was based on cutting taxes and increased spending, resulting in a massive deficit. It was a house of straw, destined to come tumbling down at the first gust of wind.

ALSO, don’t forget, Clinton also inherited a recession and a massive deficit. His response was to sign the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation act of 1993. Contrary to Republican policy, he RAISED taxes on the wealthy and reduced them for the poor and small businesses. The result? Massive reductions in the deficit. At one point the government actually as able to reduce the debt for a few scant months; something Republicans have never accomplished.

This chart from the Washington Post shows what Obama is projecting for the hole he is in. Massive deficits that will mark his legacy and do great harm to the US. He can’t hide behind W forever. Based on his early track record, I don’t know how he will even halve the deficit by 2013 without new sources of tax and tax increases for all (if not direct, through cap and trade).

We may all agree Bush spent too much, but the deficit was coming down late in his 2nd term until the democratic congress took over and he supported the bailout and several large social programs. Now Biden and crew want to spend our way out of debt. I can’t wait to see how that actually works out.

Plainbill, dtrout, and a few others, what i hear you saying is that Mr Obama has seen the wisdom of MR W’s economic philosophy, and is therefore following a similar path, just magnified may times over. If that is NOT your intended message, start reading the current scorecard, and the projections for the future. THAT is something we can impact, and we’d better start working on it soon.

While it is true that you have to pay to get the truck out of the ditch its a bad idea to go ahead and buy a fleet of trucks for all your friends on an extended credit plan..

The spending is exhorbant and not well focused is more of the problem.
