She’s apparently quite successful. And her successes are uniformly young. One who no longer skates says that as you get a little older “it gets harder and harder to tolerate the conditions.” Yup. “success” you betcha.

Do not like Russia but what the bitch is doing is ABUSE!!! If it happened in the United States, Child Protective Service would be all over this and take the child away! If they could get their thumbs out of their asses that is!

On the other hand, as far as we know she isn’t getting sexually abused and assaulted by the team doctor. Plus, much of the very nasty social media abuse came from the good ol’ USA.

The Russians don’t have a monopoly on abhorrent training methods for young athletes. I feel sorry for this girl and all the others around the world who are pushed so hard and abused by their coaches, often to the point that they begin to hate a talent that originally brought them joy…

I’d see if she could defect — I mean immigrate — to the US, or some other country that would allow her to be a kid.

I had a coach like that in HS. Today as a coach, I always do the opposite of whatever he said or did.

For the totalitarian state, sport is a way to advance its ideology. And since winning sport is better at advancement than just trying, their coaches will do just about anything to win. But, remember the coaches are under a lot of pressure to bring about a win in their young athletes. The coach wins when their athletic prodigy wins.

Russian sports are corrupt from the top down. Remember, it’s a nationwide program of doping and other methods of out and out cheating. Russia should be banned from future Olympics—and I mean banned. None of this “Russian Olympic Committee” nonsense.

Perhaps the Olympics themselves need to be reconfigured. This was only one incident, but there were undoubtedly many more that were not featured in the coverage. I didn’t watch much this time around. It wasn’t much fun to watch and it didn’t look like much fun for the participants.

The Russian coach was once a Russian athlete, subject to the same methods she is now utilizing. I have, in fact, seen genuine displays of affection between Russian coaches and athletes. Sometimes the carrot works better than the stick. The Russians know that as well as we do. A coaching job at the Olympic level is a great reward in Russia..and every Russian athlete pursues it – as will this kid. I’m NOT defending Russia- it’s a stinking hive of corruption- but there are some exceptions.

THE IOC is a joke. It’s really gonna be fun when the summer Olympics will be held in Qatar, often 100+ degrees. The Russians will probably wear asbestos suits, which will be okay with the IOC, who will again bend over and cower before the “ROC”.. Curling anyone??

I wish the IOC would raise the age to 18, the age of majority. Then, at least, we will have taken the “child” part out of the abuse.

I feel so sorry for this child and at 15, she is only a child — that so-called ‘coach’ should be in handcuffs.

Mr. Weir and Ms. Lipinski were spot-on in their comments. They condemned the doping yet felt compassion for Kamila Valieva.

The ROC has no business competing in the first place.

The coach needs to be sanctioned.
