A friend when I was in high school ignored the oil light..literally had no idea what it was for. First car in her family. Dropped the transmission on the 405 freeway. At 5:30.

Did you have this bobblehead Clio custom-made, Ruth?

Your car may still outlive you anyway. So I’d treat myself to another piece of pie, but your mileage may vary. Literally.

My current car actually DOES show a cup of coffee if it thinks you’re getting sleepy (i.e. drifting too much in your lane)!

My oil light has been on for a year. However, the battery was unable to start my car the other day and I had to have someone come out and charge it. I still have way less than 10,000 miles on it and a battery should not die in 2 years. I am glad I lease. Yes, I will get the oil changed soon since all the tires are low and now it’s not due to the weather.

Many years ago, I had a friend who was a test pilot. (I kid you not.) He was very excited about his new foreign car. He bragged that it even had a light to tell you when you needed gas. Not too long after that, he was very late picking me up for an event. I asked him what happened. He said he’d run out of gas because the indicator light hadn’t come on until he was actually out of gas. Skeptical, I asked what light he was talking about. He pointed to the indicator Ruthie is pointing to. I rolled my eyes, “Ted. That’s your OIL light.” He looked confused. “I thought it was a gas can.” Um … no Ted, that’s what the little dial with the F and the E is for.

Awhile back I was driving and a light that looked kind of like the wi-fi connection fan came on. I had no idea what it was trying to tell me. I was about to head to a repair place when I remembered I had recently filled the gas tank. I checked, and the gas cap wasn’t on tight. I’d so much rather they use words than icons for those of us who aren’t well versed in hieroglyphics.
