you did the best you could, Pastis, filling in for Thompson (who we Cul de Sac readers dearly miss since 2016)

Did pretty well, if that third panel is any indication.

Was this the year a bunch of artists exchanged strips? I remember Drabble’s creator drew the strip with his non-dominant hand, claiming he didn’t have anyone to switch with.

Looks more like the art his left ear draws.

That one kid in the first panel is almost recognizable…

I knew Pastis drew a strip for him, but this is the first time I’ve seen it.

This strip is a repeat from 01-APR-2012, ten years ago.

Interesting that I have those two comics back to back on my feed. It left me a little confused for a sec.

Oh rats. Ole pun boy can’t even give us a pun? I feel cheated. That’s a lawyer for you. Nice drawing of Cul de Sac in a sandstorm, Pastis. Alice Saurus is pissed. Watch your back.

I appreciate ALL cartoonists who helped Mister Thompson while he was ailing, and Stephan Pastis IS a genius in his own right.

I don’t know whether to laugh or weep at today’s strip. At this point in last week’s CDS, Richard had just come back from several weeks of treatment. Pastis hadn’t yet taken his turn, had he?

As Rat implies, the Nose knows. Rather than embarrass himself by a professional failure, Cartoon-Boy chose the path of overt self-deprecation.

It’s okay, Cartoon-Boy. It stands up as a humorous tribute to Richard, and that’s a Good Thing….

Sort of creepy, though, as it makes me think that’s how an artist’s work would look if he tried to draw without full control of the body parts that used to do it—a terrifying situation.

Richard Thompson, artist of “Cul De Sac,” died in 2016. I think that it is to his credit that his cartoon strip continues to both irritate and tickle our funny bones nearly six years after his death. Alice in particular, with her adult like jabber and ingratiatingly childish behavior (who is to say which one is “proper” for her) often meshing together like vinegar and milk. He was a great cartoonist, but you wouldn’t know it by his choice of graphic interpretation. His style was simple but not dismissive. We yearn for more of the Otterloop (“Petey Potterpoop”) nonsense but are left to treasure what we’ve got.
