For the record, “black tie” means “merely formal”; tails with (you guessed it) a black bow tie. “White tie” is also tails, and for some bizarre reason, the white tie makes it even more formal. A tuxedo is “semi-formal”, suit and tie is “non-formal”.
And while I do know that, I can’t imagine why any of it would matter to anyone (but then, whenever I put on pants that aren’t denim, I feel like I’m wearing a costume…….)
