“58”, operators name was Sarah, connections made 7AM to 8PM. Other operators and hours to be added incrementally.

My family retained ownership after we moved and rented out the house I lived in from the ages of 2 to 11. After my mother died I inherited the house and, after substantial renovations, moved back into it when I was 60 years old. I checked to see if the old phone number, the first of my life (before that we were rung by an operator) was available. It was not, but an even better number was available that changed one number from the old one and turned it into a palindrome. That remains our land line (although like everyone else these days we mainly use our cellphones now), but it is almost exclusively used by spammers, scammers and robocallers now.

I thought Barn was a self-made man which means he wouldn’t have been rich when young. Oh well, it’s just a comic.

I inherited my number from my mom. 50 plus years with the same telephone number! Now if I can remember what it was.
