Fashion is simply someone saying, let’s do something different for awhile. Human nature being what it is, there are generally enough people who want to follow along to make it a trend. It’s not for everyone, that’s for sure (I wear the blandest clothes that could probably fit in in almost any era), but I kind of enjoy seeing others try different things.

As for art itself, it’s definitely in the eye of the beholder, but I think it’s essential to being human. Art is just people expressing their creativity visually, or with actions(like dance or acting), words, or music. There’s a lot of research that suggests we need that in our lives.

I’d say he has human intellect, at least the emotional aspect, rather nailed. He’d be great in marketing.

“Fashion: Something so hideously awful it needs to be changed every six months.” – Oscar Wilde (or my cousin David, I forget)

“Fashion” is good for commerce, but little else; a designer makes a one-of-a-kind piece which will only be worn once; then cheaper copies are made, which are only “fashionable” so long as you don’t see anyone else wearing the same thing. Then REALLY cheap copies are made, which are thrown away once the next trend arrives. 70% of all “fast fashion” clothes (think H&M and the like) end up unsold, and very few of the items can be recycled. The manufacturing processes are ecologically disastrous, and the production methods are exploitative (sweatshops still exist).

“Looking good” is fine, but if it doesn’t last you’re wasting your money.
