My church doesn’t really observe Lent, but I do happen to be having broiled cod tonight. Hmmm. Another one-ingredient dish.
My birthday is always during Lent, no matter where Easter is on the calendar. My mother always used it as an excuse to not celebrate. When I was able, I gave up moderation for Lent and then I finally dropped the whole fairie tale. Birthdays now have my favourite meal and favourite cake and have become a time of happy anticipation rather than stressful guilt over some imagined thing.
