Yes, I think Alice should eventually marry Dill. Then Dill’s infamous brothers can provide the fireworks Alice would need at bedtime. (Oops, there could be an unintended double meaning here.)
I put my granddaughter down for a nap by covering her with her blankie and then tapping her three times while saying, “tucky tucky tucky!” She giggles, rolls over, and is out like a light for a few hours. My daughter told me she does it too, but just two “tuckys.” However, I am pretty sure she has 25 steps before that and I don’t. We just compared that note after almost 3 years.
If we ever said we weren’t tired at bedtime, the parental unit response was, “Good, then Go. To. Bed. And. Don’t. Sleep.” My sister and I would play quietly for two hours until we got yelled at. We were just following orders.

Madeline can’t handle an honest critique; and some reasonable solutions.

I do realize that Richard is not with us, but I would love to see an updated Cul de Sac. A reboot.

I was just thinking of Paul McCartney. "Say anything but don’t say goodnight tonight. "

Richard must have seen Sergio Leone’s “Duck You Sucker”, a movie with James Colburn as a mercenary who uses lots of dynamite!

Moms title is the best. Don’t make me say goodnight again. Clear, to the point, with a dash of foreboding finality.

Let her watch the evening news – she’d dive straight under the covers and stay there til morning’s light.

Turn out the light, close the door, and ignore Alice’s self-serving whining, Madeline. It’s the Right Thing to do!…
