I think in many families, they still do. Ours did, and they’re only in their 20s. Seems to me, ever since the invention of TV and the TV dinner, this has been an ongoing complaint.
Dinner was the one meal we all ate together at the table. With all of our busy schedules, it was a good way to stay current with everyone’s lives and interests. I think we bonded more over dinner than any other time.
Yeah I agree with other commenters on here. Many still do. My immediate family is in the “still do” group, but I have to admit many others do not as well.
However, it is me who has the family’s favorite ‘Chicken & Yellow Rice dish,’ that is even better than ones from the Hispanic branches of the family. My recipe has changed from the first time that I prepared it, as a bachelor, many times. It was pretty basic in the beginning, until I was inspred to add one key ingredient, and the flavor fest took off from there.
Oh, I love arroz con pollo. I’ve never had lengua casserole. I had lengua cooked on a hibachi and dipped in soy sauce while I was in Japan, and I liked it. Of course a few Sapporos didn’t hurt.
According to some schools, kids don’t “belong” to their parents any longer, and the schools can teach or do whatever they want with your children without your permission!

Arroz con pollo, chicken perloo, jambalaya, chicken & rice… it’s all good. My abuela always used saffron in her arroz.
