My wife was a mechanical designer. She worked with him and his clones. One of her rules was never present an idea in a meeting. The Winkles would tear her idea apart and then present it as their own a week later to thunderous applause.

That sort of person cannot be humiliated into a better person. They only feel shame at being caught—and not much at that. He undoubtedly went into politics.
