Who knew that a game of heads or tails can cause such a ruckus?

As long as the referees don’t blow the overtime coin flip like they during the Thanksgiving Day game between the Steelers and the Lions…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmxb9FhiMaA

Rule change would not have affected the outcome of Super Bowl LI. The overtime put an exclamation point on the epic comeback by the Pats. Can you imagine the Falcon’s overtime possession?

As much as I love the Patriots and Tom Brady ( Michigan ) : ) I have always felt so sorry for the Falcon’s because of the way that they lost that game , and I wonder if anyone of them will ever get over it ?

So an overtime game would have a fair chance of going even longer?

Curious. I’ve always wondered how McNamara has gotten away with using NFL/MLB/NBA etc logos, which are strictly protected by the organizations and copyright infringement vigorously litigated by the leagues, especially when many times their use is associated with a less-than-flattering comic arc. I used the NFL and 2 team logos on an photo collage I produced and posted on Facebook, and it was taken down within 30 minutes by Facebook citing copyright infringement. They have bots that continuously scan the web to find unauthorized use. I can’t believe these leagues would have give him blanket permission to use the logos.

The networks don’t want long football games messing up the evening non-football show schedules.

    BASEBALL STORY—

Jimmie Foxx, the “strong man” home run hitter(534) forPhiladelphia Athletics&Boston Red Sox in 1930’s.

Supposedly got signed when an Athletics scout,in town to see another player;asked Foxx for directions.

Foxx lifted the plow he was holding with one hand and pointed it—“Thataway”.

He was signed on the spot.

It’s more like the team who wins the coin toss wins fifty something percent of the time. If they want to make it perfectly fair, don’t play overtime – just do a coin toss. Then each team has exactly a 50% chance.

A ‘tie’ is a societal pariah. I disturbs the ripples of the force. You either win or you lose. So long and complicated algorithms get written to come up ways to restore balance. A playoff for some sports; win by two for others; penalty kicks for others; 5 minute overtime periods and a shootout if that doesn’t produce a winner; coin tosses; 3 hole playoffs; 18 hole playoffs. Any number of combinations just to feel good about the ending. The goal and purpose of sporting events, and competition in general, is to determine a winner among the competitors. When a sports rules allow a tie to be the outcome, it undermines the point of competition, which it to determine a winner between the two sides. Nature abhors a vacuum. Sports abhor ties.

The new rules should last for the entire OT! Unfortunately, it only lasts for the first two possessions upon which it reverts back to sudden death, if the score is still tied. Championship games [division, conference, or league] should never be decided by sudden death. IMhO.
