Yeah, Plot Development 101 gives the over-under for an opposing player getting beaned at 2:1, a player on his own team getting beaned in practice at 3:2, and Kaz coaching at first base getting beaned at 5:1.

P1: Greggg gives the universal “I’m nutsss” sign. P2: Wilson nails it with his statement (not a question) about Gilpa being unaware of what’s going on. P3: Yet again, an R&W character effs up the Vulcan salute.

This guy’s your second starter and the coach has no idea he can’t see? Considering it’s Gil, I’m not really all that surprised.

“Right eye is useless. Left eye is blurry.” And baseball is the only school activity in which this condition comes into play? No other teachers or students have taken note? His parents? And from a personal responsibility standpoint, why isn’t he recusing himself from a situation where he throws baseballs in the direction of other people? Or his teammates reporting him for that matter. Nothing good will come from this.

Is he supposed to be losing his sight to diabetes? My sister-in- law did, but it was abruptly, not gradually.

Next week, he stops using Reading Glasses from the Dollar Store and goes to an optometrist after Gil tells him that it doesn’t have anything to do with optimism.

Don’t Milford athletes have to take a physical before they can play a sport?? What Doctor signed off on this. And his parents signed the permission slip??

Wise Coach Thorp knows more than he lets on. Important to have a loss to Goshen or Tilden toward discovering the runs, hits and errors of their ways.

Heather’s next interview: “Coach Thorp, why is one of your players carrying a white cane instead of a baseball bat?”

    “Is he? I never noticed.”

WHY CAN’T HE JUST WEAR HIS GLASSES IN THE GAME? It’s totally legal to do so! This plot is SO stupid! …oh, he can? THEN WHY CAN’T HE GET A NEW PRESCRIPTION? …oh, the problem is more serious than that? … THEN HOW IS IT THAT HIS PARENTS DON’T KNOW???

My goodness, the straw-man snarking for this story is over the top.

As brilliant a summation of this comic strip as I’ve seen.

This year, instead of a magic peacock or a rally hippo, the Mudlarks’ mascot will be a seeing-eye dog. Seriously, you would think that reading the catcher’s signals would be the very least of Gregg’s concerns at this stage of his progressive eyesight loss.

Yeah, I’ve probably said it every day, but HOW IN THE HELL COULD NO COACH (no coach for the last 3-5 years) HAVE ANY IDEA THAT HE HAS A VISION PROBLEM, AND APPARENTLY NONE OF HIS TEACHERS DO EITHER? While on the other hand, his catcher could tell and could even tell that he had one functioning eye that recently started getting bad.

And speaking of getting bad, Mopped Up Thorp has been known of that happening now and then.
