Eighth grade…my mother would give me a quarter. It bought the movie, complete with a cartoon and a short. Roy Roger’s was one. A coke ( in a glass bottle) and a candy bar. 12 1/2 cents for the movie, 5 cent coke, 5 cent candy. 1952.
People complain about the cost of postage, but the fact that it costs (What is it now – 50¢? Hard to remember with forever stamps…) to send a card or letter anywhere in the US – that’s a pretty good deal in my book. I spend more than that on gas driving to the post office!
Actually prices haven’t changed all that much, a silver dime’s scrap value is $1.21. You can still buy a Milky Way or any other candy bar today with that $1.21, and back in the late 1950s that candy bar about a dime in cost. So it’s just that the government has devalued our currency.

Buy your forever stamps now. The USPS is getting ready to increase prices soon.

The price of popcorn. Can’t see a flick without a tub. Haven’t been to a theater in decades.

What would the economy be like if prices went back to the prices of 1950s for at least one week?
