That’s a problem with having an unusual feature, it’s prone to bullying. Unfortunately for Nate and Francis, their unusual features (Nate’s spiky hair and Francis’ gap between teeth) they’ve had since the very beginning.
I don’t know if things have changed, but I have a tooth gap, and when I was a kid, my brother’s orthodontist said that I didn’t need braces, because that wasn’t what braces were for. He said braces were for occlusion, and my occlusion was fine.
I honestly love this joke! I have braces and they are a pain in the neck! I hope this means that the next arc is going to be about Francis getting braces.
So, this Sunday comic states that there’s nothing wrong with looking different, and it then leads to Nate getting bullied for looking different and then Francis decides to get the braces.
Talk about doing a 180 for the sake of a petty and unfunny joke that everyone has already seen.
Francis should take comfort in the fact that some famous people (no, I don’t mean Alfred E. Neuman) have gaps in their teeth. David Letterman immediately comes to my mind.
Each to their own. If there is a medical reason or serious defects in the workings or aesthetics, go for it. However, it’s your personality that defines you and not your physical characteristics……
This comic strip is kind of sad, it shows that people’s different traits are prone to bullying.
If someone is fat, has a different race, different gender, smaller than usual or et cetera, some of society is not going to accept it.
People say these things to feel better about themselves and others to feel worse, but it is not ok. It is getting to out of hand.
People won’t say these mean things directly to their face, but they will say it as a side note and will talk bad things about them and gossip about it.
In worse scenarios, people and teachers will make fun of it and the kid being bullied will actually feel bad and have self-harm thoughts. It just needs to stop.
To fix it, we should accept the traits other people have, and if they want to say something mean, don’t say it at all. Society needs to accept it and it needs to stop.

I remember in Big Nate in a Class by Himself, Coach John called Nate, “Kid with weird hair” in a detention slip

This is the earliest I’ve ever been to a new comic strip release, nice! Also the first comment I’ve ever left on this site :)
