Well, three cats allow me to cohabitate with them. Mostly, they ignore me unless they are hungry or want to go outside. Well, if coyote comes around, they will jump up on my lap for protection.

If you have a cat and you ignore her, she’ll ignore you. If you care for her, she’ll love you back. I know this from many years of experience. Cats are like friends – you get as much out of the relationship as you put in.

If you have a dog and you ignore him, he’ll still love you. Which is sad for the dog. Don’t pat yourself on the back because you have a dog that loves you; it means nothing. Dogs are genetically forced to love you.

So if the only animal you can get to love you is a dog, you’re not a very good pet owner.

Cats are for people who want serenity in their lives, but can’t accomplish it themselves.
