I don’t know cats well enough but my golden retriever loves chasing squirrels. He finally caught one but was so surprise, he didn’t know what to do with it. He just stopped, looked at it and let it go. But he kept on chasing them as much as he could.

Squirrels are not natural at sharing. They frequently fight over a single nut or a mouthful of them.
But maybe the other squirrels can earn the right to some of those walnuts by distracting the cat and drawing her away.
