If only her teachers allowed her to get hammered at school.

My first thought was that it was the atomic bomb over Hiroshima.

Because you’re not in school now, you can enjoy a drink while you work and not have to worry about teachers or grades.

I had similar feelings recently when I started doing watercolor painting again. I get my materials ready, grab a hard cider, and go with the flow.

If her teachers had let her keep that bottle of wine by her….

She’s totally in her element, doing what she enjoys, without pressure to create on demand or being judged. Lovely.

My high school art teacher was a reason to start drinking.

Arlo has been married long enough to know to keep his trap shut.

With a little help from a good bottle… at least for starting. It will become easier.

Many of us still have recurring nightmares about the exam tomorrow for which we have not cracked a book.

Hey Arlo, let her have lots of “’art”: maybe you’ll get “lucky”!

My wife is a much better artist than she thinks, but if the weather is good enough to sit outside and draw, it’s good enough to garden.

That empty wine bottle probably helps!

I love how JJ, a true master of the art, pulls the POV back so we start with her sketch and don’t see the wine until it’s needed to make the joke.

" Not bad", Arlo? Very poor choice of words. Janis might have pointed questions for you as to your meaning:

I’m sure I’m not the only one notice the empty wine glass. Good for you Janis.

Does this mean she didn’t drink in college? Most college students drink a lot.

Maybe if they allowed wine in the art class.

I absolutely aced art school (two, in fact), and went on to have a successful 40 year career as an illustrator/graphic designer. And I was stoned almost every day in school. Do I recommend it? Well, no…but it worked for me!

I suspect large proportion of her art department in college, students and faculty, were chronically intoxicated – and not just on wine.

So that’s why my talent never took off. I was listening to the wrong muse.

I am sure the bottle of wine is helping some.

Seems to me the wine bottle has been drawn in/becomes a focus because Arlo is looking at it. I bet he’s wondering if the alcohol is taking Janis somewhere that he’d rather she not go there. Whew. A big portion really is saying that you can. If you say you cannot, you cannot (draw a stick figure). If you say you can and connect your hand with your mind/mind’s inner hand, you will be amazed by the results! And as with anything—practice.
