Even though we are a couple, we are all individuals and there are times we are tired and cranky. It is the little things that get to us all. Is it really important which way the toilet paper hangs, or how the toothpaste tube is squeezed? As long as there is toilet paper available when needed and you can afford separate toothpaste tubes, it really doesn’t matter in the long run. It is not worth the stress and aggravation.

“Selective hearing” is part of the answer. After 37 years, my wife and I are in full agreement (jokingly, that is) that we each listen to only half of what the other says.

A wise man talked about reality versus fantasy. “Life is like an old-time rail journey—delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed." Because of that, he said, “Most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration.”
