I thought it was a hairstyle.

Doesn’t matter what it is, just that it’s fun to say. Mulliganmulliganmulligan.

My mother used to make something called Mulligan stew…

“a second chance to perform an action, usually after the first chance went wrong through bad luck or a blunder.”

I have to wonder if he counts his wobbly swing as being “bad luck” or a “blunder”…

It’s implied.

I am pretty sure most casual golfers will start the game with a “mulligan on the first shot” (meaning first shot on the first hole) only. But since his game is meaningless, he is welcome to not count strokes as long as he doesn’t brag about a score he didn’t earn.

Played with some golfers who took “secret” mulligans, when you score 9 shots and declare 6, is out and out cheating!

I called them on it and they get very defensive.

I made sure I never played with them again!

Yep, shot another 72.

I shot competition with a military rifle team. A competitive sport, grounded in a survival skill. No mulligans.
